Angelene J. Hall

Angelene J. Hall was twelve years old when her parents left sharecropping for a small town in the Piedmont region of North Carolina.  From a sharecropper’s daughter to Professor Emerita, University of Cincinnati, she taught courses in black creative expression, including especially African American literature, and wrote and presented both fiction and scholarship.  During her tenure at the University, she went into renal failure and ultimately spent six years (1998-2004) on kidney dialysis.  DUCK SUMMER, her most recent work, represents her efforts to use her experiences with ESRD to educate the public about renal decline and ultimate failure, dialysis, and the urgency of organ donation.
